Who's behind this

About

I spent over 35 years teaching secondary English, including as a Head of Department and Educational Technology Coach. This site is where the framework and the free tools live.

The short version

I am a retired Ontario secondary English Head of Department. I hold a Master of Education in Language and Literacy from the University of Toronto, with specialist qualifications in English, Drama, and Music. I have served as an Educational Technology Coach, and an instructor with the Queen's University Faculty of Education, teaching Additional Qualification courses. I still take supply work, so the classroom isn't a memory, it's still my reality.

Why this exists

I build resources to solve one specific problem: students completing tasks without doing real thinking. That problem didn't start with AI, but AI made it efficient, and it made our old "defences" useless overnight.

All my work answers a single question. What does authentic assessment look like now that a machine can write a student's assignment in seconds? The IGNITE Framework is my answer to the naming half of that question, and the rest of my resources are the answer to the practical half.

Working with schools and departments

If your department is trying to reach a shared position on AI use, or your board is running professional development on assessment design, I am open to conversations about workshops, department sessions, and conference presentations. The IGNITE Framework poster is free to use, with attribution, in any setting.
